About Pratham

Founded in 1995 to provide education to children in Mumbai slums, Pratham (meaning "first" in Sanskrit) has evolved into one of India's largest and most effective non-governmental education organizations. We collaborate with governments, communities, parents, teachers, and volunteers, employing innovative interventions to address educational gaps. Our mission, "every child in school and learning well," is the driving force behind our efforts to impact the lives of India's children, from leadership to field teams.

Operating in 21 of India's 29 states, Pratham reaches millions of children and youth annually, spanning from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu. Our methodologies have transcended borders through ASER (Annual Status of Education Report), India's largest citizen-led assessment, inspiring similar assessments in fourteen countries worldwide.

Pratham USA relies on dedicated volunteers and operates through 13 chapters across the United States. These chapters raise awareness and financial support for our initiatives on the ground. With a prestigious four-star rating from Charity Navigator, placing us in the top 3% of all nonprofits in the nation, we demonstrate responsible financial practices, unwavering accountability, and transparent operations.

The Role

This position is part of a team responsible for raising more than $3 million in annual revenue through individual donors and achieving significant revenue growth each year. In this role, you will support and optimize the full range of fundraising efforts, including multi-channel campaigns, workplace giving, and volunteer mobilization toolkits.

The ideal candidate will be analytical, creative, and highly organized—someone who excels at producing consistently excellent, data-driven campaigns and fundraising programs. The Marketing & Fundraising Manager will work at the intersection of Pratham USA’s marketing and fundraising teams and will collaborate closely with the Director of Communications and the Director of Strategic Partnerships to deliver measurable growth and donor engagement.

Impact Areas

Campaign Development and Execution

  • Lead and manage Pratham’s retail fundraising program (donors giving below $1,000) to achieve annual growth targets.
  • Plan, execute, and optimize multi-channel fundraising campaigns targeting retail, mid-level, and major donors.
  • Partner with the Director of Philanthropy Operations to develop annual revenue projections and campaign timelines.
  • Manage the creation of fundraising communications, mailings, and promotional materials—ensuring delivery on time and within budget.

Donor Journey and Stewardship

  • Collaborate with the philanthropy and communications teams to map and enhance donor journeys across giving levels.
  • Oversee stewardship activities, including the annual report, donor touchpoints, and thank-you communications to increase retention and upgrade rates.
  • Develop and implement a “second gift” strategy to increase donor lifetime value.
  • Ensure campaigns and tools empower chapters, boards, and volunteers to meet fundraising goals.

Innovation and Program Growth

  • Maintain and expand existing giving programs, including workplace giving and peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Research, test, and launch new donor engagement initiatives, such as Pratham’s gift catalog and digital giving programs.
  • Identify opportunities for creative campaign testing and integrate lessons learned to inform future strategy.

Performance Measurement and Analytics

  • Manage the scope and performance of fundraising marketing projects through metrics tracking, project plans, and budgets.
  • Partner with the digital marketing manager to define, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for campaigns.
  • Evaluate program results, track ROI, and adapt strategies based on data-driven insights.
  • Keep leadership and the broader Pratham USA team informed of progress and outcomes on a regular basis.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership

  • Partner closely with regional chapters, philanthropy operations, and marketing teams to align strategies and maximize campaign effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including creative contractors and digital agencies.
  • Serve as a key connector across fundraising, marketing, and communications, fostering collaboration and alignment.
  • Support a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement within the development team.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

  • Preferably a degree in Marketing, Sales, Communications, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of results-driven fundraising or marketing experience with a track record of exceeding revenue goals.
  • Proven experience managing, implementing, and evaluating multi-channel fundraising campaigns.
  • Demonstrated success growing integrated fundraising efforts across digital marketing, special events, and corporate engagement.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to design and optimize marketing plans that yield measurable results.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred).

Attributes for Success

  • Analytical and creative with a strong grasp of fundraising techniques.
  • Driven and results-oriented, with an innovative mindset.
  • Patient and calm under pressure.
  • Skilled at multi-stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Professional in demeanor, with exceptional written and oral communication skills.
